2015

Pine Lane Soaps has been asked to participate in the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service Small Farm College. As part of the “Women in Agriculture” track, we will lead a session discussing the formation of our business and our management practices. We are happy to help with this effort to inspire other women and share our journey with other small farmers. We had the pleasure of being at Creative Living Custom Spaces in Batavia for an Open House on November 5, 2015. This was also a fundraiser for the Batavia Schools Foundation, a non-profit that assist school projects with finances. Many of our friends and customers came and we were happy to made a generous donation.

The bucks are coming! We do not own bucks or keep them on the property. Pine Lane Soaps partners with top-notch respectable breeders in the Midwest to provide our herd sires. Goats are seasonal breeders, which mean they typically come into “heat” late summer and fall. We choose to breed them in October and November. After a 5 month gestation, we expect lots of little poopsies! And yes, the bucks are VERY stinky!

Pine Lane Farm was very privileged to have a special visit on Sunday, August 30, at 4:00, we welcomed Steve Wescott and his pack goat Leeroy Brown. The County Kids 4H Club hosted Steve and Leeroy to learn about a project called Needle 2 Square. Steve and Leeroy are walking across the county from the Space Needle in Seattle to Times Square in New York. Seems quite odd, but Steve is a Christian and kind of a missionary, bringing awareness and raising funds for an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya. This Uzima Outreach in Kenya serves addicts and the starving children of addicts. Steve hopes to raise enough money to purchase a small farm in Kenya that will help the children prosper. So all are welcome to attend and hear about Steve and Leeroys adventures. They were in Cincinnati at the end of August, 2015 and we were VERY excited to meet them both. Check out Needle2square.com for more information.

Because of our involvement with the Ohio State University Extension Office, we were also chosen to represent Clermont County in the Ohio Women in Agriculture Learning Network. This is part of OSU Extension’s Ohio Sustainable Ag Farm Tour Series, which will take place throughout Ohio from June through October. Approximately 24 farms throughout Ohio are chosen to offer open house/farm tours and educational classes throughout the summer for Ohio residents. Our Spring 2015 open house/farm tour was Saturday, June 13, 2-15 from 2 – 5 pm.

The ladies of Pine Lane Farm have recently been selected to represent Clermont County at this year’s Farm Science Review OSU Extension Women in Ag Team “100 Faces of Women in Agriculture” feature. This will be showcased in the Firebaugh Building at the Women in Agriculture Team Display as an interactive display for everyone to peruse. Thanks to OSU extension for recognizing our 40 years of farming in Clermont County! We will be featured at the Ohio Farm Science Review in September 2015. Thanks to all of our loyal customers for supporting local women!

2012

April 2012 – We spent a fabulous day at Indigenous Gallery in O’Bryonville as the featured artist of the month. We also brought two little baby Saanenburgs for a quick visit too. Saanenburgs?? Yes, the mom is a Toggenburg and the dad is a Saanen! Well, it wasn’t really planned that way, but they are healthy and cute!! More babies due soon!! We also set up a booth at the Log Cabin Herb Society seminar day and met lots of fabulous herbalists!

The highlight of April had to be the soapmaking demonstration that we did for the Clermont County Dairy Goat Society/4-H group at the Clermont County Fairgrounds. We showed a group of 4-Hers and parents just what is involved in making our soap. While the soap was mixing we also did a cheesemaking demonstration too! It was busy morning but we do love to share our passion with others!

May 2012 – We are ready for action and excited to start the Montgomery Farmers Market on Saturday, May 5. This will be our 3rd season in Montgomery and we are pleased to return. On Sunday, May 6 Pine Lane Soaps will particpate in the Maderia Art Fair in Maderia Ohio. Come and visit and check out our selection of soaps and lotions.

July 2012 – Market season is in full swing! We are also at the General Electric Farmers Market in Evendale, Ohio on some Wednesday afternoons from 2 – 5:30. The Montgomery Market is going well and we have a full selection of all soaps and lotions. We have some selections now that are only available while they last – Lime Margarita, Sea Fresh, Cherry Pie and Jewelweed (great for Poison Ivy!). We are also gearing up to take our goatsies to the 2012 Clermont County Fair. The 4-H Dairy Goat show is Wednesday July 25 starting at 9 AM in the small animal arena. July 23 – Congratulations to two beautiful young women in our family early in our fair. We are proud to boast both the Caprine Representative (Goat queen) and the Fair Queen this year. In addition to dairy goats and soaps, we have awesome children!!!

August, 2012 – We are getting super busy with craft shows and stocking up for the upcoming holidays! Just found out today that we are accepted to go to the Indie Craft Fair on Fountain Square in Cincinnati tomorrow (August 11)! We are happy to go but would have loved more notice! What’s up with that anyway?? Montgomery Farmers Market continues to be a Saturday event from 9 – 12:30. We are already making arrangements to breed our does this fall for spring babies and milk! Got a new batch of goat milk lotion ready too, along with lotion bars and shea butter.
